February 29th, 2008 | Reading while knitting

While generating squares, I have also been reading a great set of books.   The first was recommended via LibraryThing, and was the book for the Toronto Public Libraries BookBuzz chat this month. Consolation is the story of a young man arriving in Toronto just as it was beginning to become a city, and a [...]

February 28th, 2008 | My mitered-square sock-yarn afghan

I have found the ideal project for my current state of mind (and life). I am generating squares at a brisk pace (I can make one each way on the train and more than one during a movie or hockey game). I have made 19 so far, and I’m one my way to making a whole [...]

Mitered squares. It’s a square: you’ve seen one, you’ve seen ‘em all. But maybe in another color? Or two more? And they provide a somewhat productive way to use up all that yummy sock yarn I will likely never make into socks?  Um, yeah. Now I’m beginning to catch on. Project details coming soon.

February 19th, 2008 | Spinning a little

I spent a bit of Sunday watching Elizabeth, and turning the carded fleece into this not-too-finely-spun wool: The movie was great, the spinning was fun, and I felt productive. I have about that much more brown fleece to card and spin onto another bobbin, and I’m guessing about 2 bobbins-worth of white to card and [...]

February 18th, 2008 | More Maine Morning Mittens

One more pair of Maine Morning Mitts cranked out on the train. These are made from the Fat Sock yarn I recently acquired from Hello Yarn. Happily, there is still a nice bit left for me to ponder. Or just look at: These are completely not my usual colors, but I did enjoy the interplay of [...]

February 14th, 2008 | The bigger picture

Continuing the theme of reptitive blogging and photos, here are more paper boxes. These represent the complete Valentine’s collection, pre-donation frenzy.     Perhaps you can see why the process became an obsession? Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 13th, 2008 | Painting

Today there are photos of my other recent project, which was painting a good part of the house. This took me about a million years longer than I thought it should–both to get around to starting and to get around to finishing–but I have now completed my part of the work on the dining room (above) [...]

February 12th, 2008 | Fetching, again

I know all the knitting on this blog is starting to look awfully the same. I’m planning to branch out, but have to get at the stash to do so, and at the moment it is all piled up to make room for an exchange student from China who will be staying (with a friend) [...]

February 11th, 2008 | Creative efforts

This past week I have spent a good deal of time on a slightly different creative endeavor–making paper boxes. Each one has a different paper for the top and bottom, and these are Valentine-themed, in a very general way:  We started this as a fundraising idea for the latest project I’ve been roped into, Relay [...]

February 7th, 2008 | Reading, again

I’ve been reading more than knitting, and painting more than both, so here’s a roundup of the latest reading–I’ll skim over the books that were fine, and go into detail on the few I loved: I read Arlington Park as an early reviewer, and reviewed it at Library Thing. Following my reading of And She Was, [...]
