October 25th, 2007 | I’m back–and I can still walk

Bear with me for a bit here–we are low on knitting content this week, but I will have actual yarn and finished objects next week. Meanwhile, the (half) marathon. I can’t describe to you what a fanatastic and amazing experience it was, from start (above) to finish. I loved the few days preceding the event, [...]

August 24th, 2007 | More Toronto eye candy

View of Toronto over Snake Island.   Ward’s Island Boardwalk. Ward’s Island Boardwalk and beach.

August 23rd, 2007 | Toronto yarn crawl: continued

Lest you think my trip here has been all wool and books, it has not. We have taken time out to go: to the movies, (Superbad, which was pretty funny, but fairly inappropriate for my 11- and just-turned-14-year-old; to the CNE and the Ontario Place, where the water park and sports pavilion were huge hits (and [...]

August 22nd, 2007 | Toronto yarn crawl: day one

First, an aside: Yesterday I went running at the Boardwalk, and it was extremely windy. Absolutely gorgeous–waves rolling from across Lake Ontario, a dramatically cloudy sky, and not too many people. At the end of my run I stopped to watch some kiteboarders making the most of the day. They were fabulous: one rider was actually [...]

August 19th, 2007 | Vacation, starting . . .

I had imagined that my two weeks up here would be pretty much empty: the boys would be in camp all day and I could spend my time tying up loose work ends, looking for new opportunities, and–for a day or two–lounging in the sun reading, my favorite pastime. It hasn’t turned out that way. So [...]

August 1st, 2007 | No access & no FO

Here’s the Toronto skyline from the island–one of my favorite views. I had no access to the Internet for various reasons, but not much time to post anyway! Or to knit . . . . I did get the whole back of the baby sweater done; and a bit of the front. This does knit [...]

July 21st, 2007 | Project Spectrum

For this quarter’s Project Spectrum (red, black and metallics):   Carrying on the mask tradition of Venice’s Carnevale.

Everywhere we went in Italy, the food was fabulous. We ate at some marvelous restaurants, but enjoyed perusing the local supermarket and outdoor markets as well. Campo de Fiore is one flower and produce market we visited in Rome:   We were amused by vending machines outside the supermarket: and the gorgeous local deli: In Venice, [...]

July 17th, 2007 | Venice with yarn

Continuing the randomness, here’s more travel-blogging. Our kids enjoyed Piazza San Marco, for the people and pigeons, this is what the area looks like from the water, after the rain has cleared.   Thay also loved this interactive exhibit, by a Norwegian artist, in the Scandinavian pavilion of La Biennale (along with many of the other exhibits). I [...]

July 13th, 2007 | Eye Candy from Venice

A display of silk scarves in a shop. Velvet chenille scarves in the shop. Display window. Glass birds. The scarves I coveted, but did not purchase. They started at 300 Euros or so . . . .
